A very big news for the online railway E-ticket booking users. Option to change boarding point online has been
introduced by the IRCTC. Now you can change your boarding point, if you are boarding from a different station. This is one of the most awaited feature and finally it has been provided by the e-commerce giant.

This problem occurs mostly when agents book tatkal tickets from source station where train starts and your station comes in between. There is a lot of chance your seat being allotted by the TTE to some waiting passenger if you do not show up on boarding station. Now, after this feature passengers can easily modify their boarding station.
Here is what IRCTC Says (rules):
Online change of Boarding Point
- Passenger who has booked etickets can change his Boarding station online before 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the train w.e.f. 28-Jan-2016. In case a passenger has changed the boarding point he will lose all the rights to board the train from the original boarding point. If found travelling without any proper authority to travel, passenger will have to pay fare with penalty between original boarding point to changed boarding point.
- Boarding point change is allowed only once.
- Boarding station can be changed before 24 hours of the scheduled departure of train.
- Boarding point change is not allowed if ticket is seized.
- Boarding point change is not allowed for the PNRs with VIKALP option.
- Online boarding point change is not allowed for I-Ticket.
- Boarding point change is not allowed for current booking ticket.
