The timing of Indian Railway Tatkal Ticket has been changed and in effect from 15th of June. This step has been taken by railway ministry in order to reduce load on their server. After unexpected increase in IRCTC traffic, Indian railway ministry decided to change Tatkal timing of AC and non-AC coaches.
Now, under the revised timings, for AC classes, the reservation under Tatkal scheme will open at 10 a.m. one day before the date of journey from train originating station. For non-AC classes, it will start at 11 a.m.
Previously, the Tatkal timing was from 10 a.m for both the AC as well as the non-AC coaches. Due to this millions of people book the tickets at the same time and this causes aberrant increase in traffic of Indian railway servers resulting in errors.
As, the timings are changed it will surely help those who book their ticket themselves. The change is surely positive and also it will reduce load on the servers giving a smooth booking experience to users.
In another change, a wide range of ticketing agents, including IRCTC agents, will now be suspended from booking tickets for 30 minutes from the opening of bookings – from 8 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. for general bookings, from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. for Tatkal AC classes, and from 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. for Tatkal non-AC classes, the Railways said in an announcement.
The Railways is additionally in plan to refund some percentage of charge on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. At present, no such facility is provided.
“We are considering to refund certain percentage. We will have a time allotment and if a traveler cancels out (a Tatkal ticket) inside of the timeline, he will be refunded likewise,” the Press Trust of India, said citing a senior Railway official.
